How to Use a Hand Massager: Warm, Relaxed Hands in 15 Minutes Without Leaving Your Couch

How do you use a hand massager? You slide your hand in and press one button, and that's the easy part.

What matters is what happens next, on the hand that already hurts.

First, the hands you woke up with

Your fingers wake up stiff and slow, and the coffee mug takes both hands. The shirt button fights you, and the jar lid goes back in the fridge still shut.

By evening, after a long day of typing, gripping and carrying, your wrist aches and your fingers feel heavy.

So you reach for what's in the cabinet. The heating pad warms for a while and then goes cold, and the gloves squeeze and that's all they do. A massage only happens when you can book one and pay for it.

That's three fixes, each doing one job, and none of them is there when your hands ache tonight. If you change nothing, tomorrow morning will look exactly like this one.

Why Nuvra does all three

Steven, Malvay's founder, watched his mother live with exactly this, and here's how he put it:

"A heating pad here. Compression gloves there. A massage when she could afford one. She was assembling the right solution with the wrong tools."

So Nuvra does all three: heat, compression and massage in one device and one 15-minute session, on your own couch. His mother still uses hers every morning, and here's how to use yours.

Before your first session

Before your first session, charge it with the included USB-C cable. The light flashes red while it charges and turns green when it's ready.

One full charge gives you about 10 sessions. Because it's cordless, you can use it on the couch, at the kitchen table or in bed.

One quick note: if you have a pacemaker or other implant, take blood thinners, or had hand surgery recently, check with your doctor before your first session.

Four buttons run the whole thing

The control pod on top has four labeled buttons: power, heat, mode and intensity. Power starts every session on the gentlest setting, and heat gives you 3 settings or off.

Mode switches between 3 massage modes, and intensity sets the squeeze across 5 levels.

Large-print instructions come in the box. If you can use a TV remote, you can use Nuvra.

Your first 15 minutes

Start by sliding in whichever hand hurts more, since Nuvra works on both hands.

When you press power, it starts on the gentlest setting, so the first squeeze is the light one.

Then press heat and pick one of the 3 settings. Nuvra heats up within a minute and tops out at 125°F, never hotter.

Sit back and let the warmth come first, followed by the squeeze and release of the air chambers and then the massage. At 15 minutes it shuts itself off, even if you've dozed off on the couch.

To switch hands, flip it over, slide your other hand in and press power again for another 15 minutes.

★★★★★ "I have arthritis so I thought I'd give this a try. The massager does what it says. I really like the heat! It's easy to put on, comfortable, and easy to use. When I remove the glove after the massage my hands feel really good."
Amelia C., Arthritis, UK

Set it up for your hands

Mode 1 cycles through your fingers, palm, wrist and full hand, so it's the best place to start. Mode 2 builds pressure from your fingers to your wrist, and Mode 3 alternates between zones.

Give each mode a session and keep the one your hand likes best.

Turn the heat up on a stiff morning. If your hand already feels warm, switch the heat off, and the squeeze and the massage keep going.

The intensity starts on the gentlest of 5 levels and only goes up when you press the button, so you decide how firm the squeeze gets. When a level feels easy, go up one step at your next session.

★★★★★ "im a nurse and my hands are absolutely stiff and achy by the end of my shift from charting and gripping all day. slipping my hand into this thing as soon as i get home relaxes them immediately!! its quiet enough that i can use it while watching tv on the couch without it sounding like a loud blood pressure pump. totally part of my nightly routine now to decompress before bed"

Morning, night, or both

In the morning, slide your hand in while the coffee brews, before the jars, the buttons and the car keys. At night, use it on the couch after a long day of typing and gripping, or in bed before sleep.

If you want more, start a second session right after the first.

Your first week

Use it every day and try all 3 modes. When a level feels easy, go up one, and once you've found your time of day, keep it.

To clean it, wipe the outside with a soft, dry cloth and keep it away from water.

Your hands get 30 days to decide
